E. Ratislav says if someone must die, it must be himself. Robert’s mission is too important to have him die now, as it involves taking down an individual using an artifact to cheat death. (Something cruelty of death must despise)

(Also, rats lifespan is a couple years, Ratislav probably lived almost a full life)
