My own team has come to the conclusion it must either be Triumphant or Melkior.

First question I have for all teams, who was able to firmly establish a motive or motives for Happy? No crime is without one. So far at least one motive that my team has been able to conclude is that Happy wishes to break an Ana entity away from the Ash Tree. The spirit parasites may only be a tool by which Happy can do so.

… *deep inhale*
Inner thoughts I am losing my patience.

Sirs, with all due respect that is foolish to disregard my question. Part of establishing motive is not just determining cause. It is also establishing a psychological profile of the person in question. You are correct in determining that Happy’s goal is to oppose the Tribunal. But why is he in opposition? What is the reasoning behind his actions? With that, we can then match that to the accused to look for discrepancies and correlations. As for Ana, have you not read our file on her? She is a lynchpin in the universe. If she dies, the universe of the Ash Tree is reset to a certain point. Can you imagine what kind of power Happy would have if he had that at his finger tips?

Have you considered what the others might have considered? If they have a suspect in mind, then they should look for evidence and build a behavioral profile.

Here’s what we do know about Happy, he is someone in the organization, has access to our faculties enough to cause a power outage and he convinced one of our colleagues to join his ranks. He is also able to call spirit parasites and the mad world painting was a loose end he needed to see dead to prevent being exposed. It means that Happy had to have had access to this facility early.

With that in mind, I know Triumphant was among the first to join the tribunal, but what about the arrests of the other suspects? Where they all arrested at the same time or were they all brought in at separate times?

Firstly, for the other teams, what motive have you all made for Happy?

Secondly, when were the arrests made for each suspect?

Thirdly do we have a timeframe of when Ana was invited here?

A fair assumption, however you remember that he was also the one who saved Ana. Why suddenly pull a 180? Especially if he wanted her dead, all he had to do was let it happen. It doesn’t add up. Who else would have been able to access the hall at the time?

I admire your conviction. It is a good tool to have. But from where does this conviction come from? May we see presented evidence that it is The Mad Creator?

And regrettably sir, I must also ask you to present evidence as to why you are not working with Happy. I ask this as you were a close confidant of Murdusa. You were at the interrogation of the Doctor with Murdusa who as we know, was secretly an Agent of Happy.

Hmm, yes, very gross Melk, but see they didn't deny knowing her (does she have a name, btw?) and you did. And wouldn't it be just the perfect cover, for the creator to bring her here, thinking she is just inanimate, while secretly she is working for you. Nobody would be looking for her, and even if they were she's only connected to creator, who would be the prime suspect of ordering her.

But really, shouldn't we just ask her? Offer her a full pardon for any crimes if she'll tell us who was ordering her.

Not going to introduce yourself? Very well then, allow me. My dear, this is Happy the Tragedy Phantom, in the flesh. I believe you two have already been somewhat acquainted.

As for torturing her, I didn't. There was no point in torturing someone who has no will left to live, and even begged me to do it. I should know, really not point in cutting off my arms and legs if I won't cry out in pain at them.

I do ask you, my dear, to remember what I pointed out to you when we first discussed things however ( >>1088385 ). This is probably the best opportunity to really put it to the test.

Before you decide to cut off my limbs, or whatever you have in mind, I have some questions. If you're on the same side, why did you never have the courage to meet her face to face? Essence would have.

Hahaha! This is a comedy. And here I thought you only knew tragedy.

>This is your last warning.
Or what? You'll hurt her? Place her under arrest? Don't try to be me.

Look, you accuse me of being a loyal dog, but that is exactly what you want her to become. Do you know what the greatest tragedy of your kind is Happy? The loss of individuality. You and her are perhaps the only Spirit Parasites left with any sense of individualism. You've turned my colleagues into loyal little drones that call you "Master." They can only follow your orders, which is exactly what you hate about me? How perfectly hypocritical of you. But then again who isn't in some ways.

As for me being a "scumbag," Contaminator, I would be the last to deny it. But I wonder, why is that Happy wants you to follow his commands? He wants you to be his dog, so when he tells you to jump you say "how high, sir?" It's fascinating, he's even wearing military epaulets, how quaint. Essence was someone worth following, and the more I look at him the more I get a sense of someone who has lied his way to the top.

What would happen if you said no? Well, then you'd be a threat to him; because you have a sense of self, of individualism. You are a spirit parasite who is not a drone, why isn't Happy trying to make you into a mindless drone, remove your sense of individualism?

I'm not so sure that he can. What's more, I think you're a potential threat to him. He wants, needs your subservience. To what end though? I wonder, can you order the drones?

Is it really so hard to just let a person who's of no use to you go? Why force her to do this when anyone could beat up Corax? I mean even I could, if you want.

So this is it then? You're going to allow him to control you, at least Essence gave you something he has denied you. At that was decency and real purpose.

Before you kill me by the way, I have something in my pocket that belongs to you. Some evidence I was considering, the photo of "Essence." The one showing her "death" on the street. It's been something i've been puzzling through and I had to consider why you would keep it. We were told it depicted Essence at the moment of her death but that is technically impossible as her original body is bound to the Ash Tree. So we had to realize that this had to have been a separate Ana but one who was connected to Essence it someway.

I wonder Happy, just whose face is that under Contaminator's mask? Is who she really is why you're so desperate for her to join you? Those big doll like eyes don't lie. Contaminator, you are the truest heir to Essence, because you are an Ana.

Or follow his orders. If you do decide to kill us though... Aim for my head please, I'd rather this be over quickly.

Oh. One more thing, Ana, Contamy, whichever name you would prefer to be called. I think Essence was training you because she really did care for you as a sister would. I know you wanted your relationship to be more than that. But all I ask you to consider is this. You acted as the Daughter of Essence, as an Ana would. In that final battle, you stood ready to defend Essence. You continued to fight for her cause. But where was he? In the shadows. He didn’t stop Essence death, he didn’t help you in his fights, only expected you to fight them for him.

You’re the one with the gun now. Will you fight his battles for him? Or fight your own war?

Till then, fare you well.

That's fine, you have don't have to like me; I don't even like me.

The sad truth of the matter, Contaminator, is we are very alike, and that's not a good thing. We are two broken people with not much to live for. Our victories are hollow, and we gain nothing from them.

I was also once sick of this world. When I came back from the war, I was a broken man. The prison I was thrown into, they tortured me, twisted me. They cut me open and rewired me. When I was finally returned home, I took no pleasure in anything anymore. I couldn't feel pain and I couldn't feel any pleasure. I was lost in a sea of nothingness. Time after time, I considered ending it all. I lost count of the times I put a gun in my mouth. And if there was any real justice in the world, I should have pulled the trigger.

But I didn't. Call it cowardice, call it apathy. The real reason is simply is not that I didn't want to give up. It's only that I cannot stand losing. And even more tragically, that's about all that keeps me going. Time after time, whenever I stepped into an interrogation room, I would ask "Why do I do this, why would anyone want to do this?" The answer is also, disappointingly easy.

"Because what else is there?"

So with all that in mind, what else is there for you? You could give up here. No one would blame you, I certainly wouldn't. Alternatively, if you decide that you also are just simply tired of losing, you should consider a few things.

One, we were told that should that mask of yours break, you would begin to suffocate. In fact were give express orders not to let that happen, you were to remain alive. However, this is now the second time I have seen you with a puncture in that mask. The first, you stabbed me. And now, Happy has stabbed you, through the face no less, and punctured your mask.

Two, we gathered intel based on what we knew, and what you were told. So I ask you, who told you that if you removed that mask you would die? If it was Happy, I would begin wondering what other lies he told you, then take it a step further:

To what end would he want you believing that if you removed your mask you would die, To keep you complacent? Most assuredly.

Why would he want you complacent and following his orders? Is it possible you might also be able to command the spirit parasites as he can? I doubt he would want to share that kind of power with anyone.

And most interestingly, have you tried commanding them before? Perhaps now would be a moment to try.

My advice to you. Try to command them to take off your mask. It will either kill you, and we will appreciate the irony that you COULD command them, only for it to kill you. Or you will live, and you can figure out what you want to do from there.

At this point, what else have you really got to lose?

Or, do nothing.

Necessary actions can often appear cruel. But what happened back there seemed to stem from anger. Of course there are things I don't know, but it sure looked like you were forcing her to hurt Corax purely for your own satisfaction. And now because she isn't loyal to you (I'm confused, did she work for you? You can't be disloyal to someone you never pledged loyalty to .) you're going to hurt her now? It seems, villainous yes I suppose, but more it seems pointless and petty.

Hmm. Let's break that down, investigate it if you can appreciate the irony.

I still question the validity of the claim that you need it. If the mask keeps your head intact then why is you head not turning into jelly and sliding out the broken front of it right now? You also had to get a new one made specifically to keep you from falling apart meaning at some point your old one had to get taken off. So either they worked VERY fast to keep you from dying, which if it keeps you alive would need to be a long surgical process which would be a record breaking surgery for time; OR the claim is false, which is more likely? Who is to say that the people who put you in your new mask weren't already under Happy's orders? Question everything.

Secondly, I meant what I said when I first made you the offer during our first interrogation, turn traitor and I will make a case for you. I cannot guarantee any freedom but I can offer something like witness protection. If you join my team, then I may be able to give more. And I am confident in that statement as from what I have observed, you are not a threat and you will not spread spores to create more spirit parasites. Here's why:

You had a full team of your own people, as far as we have seen very few people have any kind of immunity to the spores, and no one is an asymptomatic carrier, it's just not how spirit parasite biology works. If you were able to spread them, wouldn't the people who we have on record be spirit parasites by now? However, they never turned. So you were made to resemble a spirit parasite, but you are not a carrier.

However, can you say for a definitive certainty, that you are not able to control them? You say you were designed to be a soldier. This means that you need to be able to follow orders, but also think for yourself beyond simply being a drone. Happy created you in order to have free will, and be able to think for yourself. His own anger at your failure to follow his orders reflects that, he WANTED you to choose as long as the option was what he wanted. Were I to design someone like you, I would need to be able to delegate drones easily. I can give the order to a lieutenant, who can then order the drones as a squadron. Look at the way he operates them now, it's what he needed you to do.

Now if you are questioning why he needed a lieutenant who can control the spirit parasites, look like them, but not be a carrier, let's break that down. Happy knows what happens when they are let loose on a world without guidance. The Mad World painting is evidence of that. He couldn't control them at all or delegate. My guess is that he wanted to see if he could control them, found that he couldn't on such a large scale, and needed others who could control them, without risking the spores spreading. If I am right about this, it means that you are the Tribunal's answer to how to stop the spirit parasites from spreading and eradicating everything. You have to be the one who controls them. If we kill Happy now, who's to say they won't go crazy without a leader to give them orders?

So, again, all the facts as we see them points to the fact that YOU CAN, but haven't tried. At the moment, the heart of the queen is... Well we know where the queen is. I suspect you do as well. But she is not a factor at the moment. I don't need to stop them, I only need to stop Happy.

That's it? Alright, you'll be disappointed however.

*Corax unzips revealing a body that is shockingly scarred up and a leg brace that he wears under his clothes. He strokes himself completely flaccidly and without interest*

Forgive me, but I don't actually feel pleasure either. You are correct that I can no longer feel pain, but this also means the pleasure senses don't activate fully either. What's more is I am completely sterile, I've tested, and I feel no sexual attraction anyone. So the most you're going to get is this. I am sorry to disappoint you. As for shame?

As you can see, I am essentially crippled. What you see is just a makeup job that I do for the public. My leg as you can see, is in a brace I wear under my trousers. My spine is twisted and I often have to have assistance getting out of bed and then there are mornings when I have pissed myself or shat the bed. I can barely eat solid foods as my teeth are ruined, I have soup most days. When one lives with shame everyday, it becomes just another tedious part of the mundane. Maybe there is some secondhand embarrassment for you and your companions as well as Peregrine, but that's about it.

Shall I continue this pantomime of disappointment?

Based on data we collected about spirit parasites, their leaders have a core, some area that if hit, will begin the stages of them dying. I suspect Happy has one as well.

If must remove the hybrid queen then the best we can hope to do right now is subdue Happy. If we remove his core that will be a start. Let's move.

What was I supposed to do shoot you? You got shot in the head ten minutes ago! It's been clear for a while no one's getting out of this alive so all that's left is just messing with you.

Speaking of which (Hopkins puts the gun to his head) you wouldn't want me to take the easy way out right? Better back off or my finger might slip.

Were any of us working with Happy we would be thoroughly parasited by now and this would tactically be the best time to turn on you all, especially given I know who’s really under Mr. Toothpick’s mask.

Please be aware that only a select few of us are immune to the spread of spirit parasites. I understand that we are allies by convenience only, but I’d rather clear this up as quickly as possible.

For the record, contaminator, I don’t hate you. I pity you.

When we were first intro diced to Toothpick, they spoke as if they themselves had intimate knowledge of what was happening and had more than a passing familiarity. I even hinted at it as early as our first introduction and i was using small hints to let Happy on to the idea of who they were, using them as bait to lure Happy out of hiding. And it worked.

What’s more is during Happy’s first attack when the power went out, Toothpick came to my rescue and even again acted with more knowledge of the voices of Ana than anyone should really know.

My goal is not to put Toothpick under any kind of arrest, my goal is arrest Happy, and those that would aid him. I have no interest in Toothpick beyond what they mean to my quarry.

Now, I have a question for you. Given that the tribunal has records of what happens to your universe when… Toothpick, dies, your universe undergoes a massive reset. However, what would happen if they were perish outside of their universe?
