Then let them wait no longer.

As we approach the portal, ask if he has any lore or legend about the portals, the mannequin and their creation.

I agree. It seems a very reasonable request after so many gifts, and costs me nothing. I rouse Dompag and send him to retrieve the portal.

"Where do you find your mannikins?"
>"Why Prince! It's a common obsession of mine. I track them down where I can, but they are such a rarity. Some traders don't know what they have, and they are so hard to identify. But I say, those who do know what they have are often more trouble!"
"Nothing reliable?"
>"I'm afraid there is in this world no grand emporium of mannikins. I simply keep an eager eye out wherever I travel for more of my tiny friends."

Dompag returns with the portal, still attached to its wheel-fitted base.

>"Quite a novel innovation! I've never seen a portal that could move. And it's been so long since I've seen one at all."
"Finesse's idea. And execution."
>"I should have guessed! I doubt many know their way around a monster portal the way Lady seng Barr does."
"...Are they so hard to get a hold of?"
>"Always, Prince, but especially of late. The Order of Helianthus frowns upon such things, and their men seem to ever grow in number."
>>

Sadly, we may need to ally with the Order of jerks to act as a bulwark against the Czar. At least until we find evidence of cult behavior on their part.

Are... are you sure we should just throw these in with multiple potential casualties?

Since he seems to like summoned monsters so much maybe we should assemble the ones we have for his viewing pleasure. We're looking for ways to repay his gifts and he might get a kick out it.
At the very least we should call for Mock Fang. Rabas might have some insight on his unusual creation.

"If you are so interested in these portals and their magical production, perhaps you would like to meet those I have summoned, myself."
>"I confess, these particular little friends are my main interest here. But if the hour were not so late, I would gladly take the time. Perhaps when next I visit, your Highness."

The portal flickers to life and Morphyl approaches. He speaks softly, coaxingly, to the little dolls as he places them one after another into the portal.
>"Come now, my cherished friends. The time has come to enter this world. There is so much for you to see and do."

While Morphyl greets the "Smriti", speaking to them in quiet, patient words, his companion approaches me.

>"Thank you for your time and your presence, Prince Malto. And for granting this boon.
>He tries to be restrained and cordial about these things, but I assure you, he'll be giddy all night. I'll have to make his special soothing tea just to get him to sleep."

"It's nothing compared to the gifts he's brought me. I'll treasure these things he's saved on my behalf."

>"It has been an honor being welcome in your court, your Royal Highness. I hope we may visit you again someday.

The night is young, but I retire to my chambers all the same. Entertaining in the court asks more energy than I remember.

This is the first time I've ever had to do it myself, rather than just watch my parents carry me along.
The first time in many years I've spent the entire day being called "Prince" and "Your Highness".
The first time in some while a person of such respect has treated me like royalty from start to finish.

It was a good day.
I had missed the goings of the royal court.

Calvario: This is wrong, and you know it.
You did not declare war.
You did not demand terms.
You did not even bother to talk to them.
And now your men are gleefully shoving artillery rounds into their faces.
This is not war. This is slaughter.
Someone, somewhere, is laughing at how easy you all are. The ogres are going to be blamed for things they didn't do. Which means whoever did all those murders is going to enjoy getting away with them.

Stop your men. Now. Before you damn yourselves in the name of God.
Like countless others before you.

Calvario, you know this is wrong. You can give the order to stop. Your men do this in darkness because you don't want the sun to see, to do this in the name of God isn't just wrong, it is blasphemous.
