My first reaction is to just run out the door, but no. It can't be that easy.

We need a plan. If we are going to get out of here, it needs to be done carefully. Neither of us has any idea what it is like on the outside.

we need to gather some food that wont spoil quickly and then get a few changes of clothes. reminds me, find out where your clothes went.

Two young girls raised in isolation with a questionable skillset going out into a world they know nothing about with no real objective other than To Get Out. Yeah.

Worse things are going to happen to you if you go out on your own. You should find out how you got to the peephouse in the first place; if you taken from your parents and so on.
The ultimate goal is finding some relatives you could be sheltered by.

Why just the two of you? Shouldn't you try and convince all of the girls to leave? I'd think everyone would be scared, and there is safety in numbers and all that.

The Big Sneak-out, involving all of the girls in the Peephouse Boudoir, takes place TOMORROW night. According to Souli and Zayyima, who have actually talked to one of the older girls, the person who wins The Coming-out has to stay behind to meet a visitor who comes to the Peephouse.

As far as I know, there are no guards other than the older girls. Since they seem to be the ones who told us about the sneak-out, they probably did it once themselves. They might even help us, but I have never met them!

If Shai-shai and I were to leave tonight, we would be leaving Shan-ha behind. She was the only other one in favor of leaving "for good".

This is the potential sequence of events:

1.Leave tonight (optional)
2. Shan-ha meets with Yon Tonpaht tomorrow evening
3. The Big Sneak-out occurs while Shan-ha is with the Tonpaht, and she is left behind according to tradition

If we want to include Shan-ha with us, then we will have to leave tonight or tomorrow morning! The older girls may try to stop us if they see Shan-ha!

I am imagining in my head a map of what I know of the Peephouse. I know the downstairs like the back of my hand, but the upstairs is still vague!

As obnoxious as Shan-Ha is, Rin is far worse. I don't think even she deserves to be left to the mercies of his master. You need to get out of here with her tonight.

Okay... So the obvious exit requires you to sneak past both the older girls' AND the Madame's quarters, on a rather important night when Madame Zo is already upset and perhaps less likely to sleep. (How deeply does she usually sleep, anyway?)

This does not sound like an ideal plan. You need some more options.

Is there any possibility of escaping by way of the courtyard? If so, that might be a better route. What kind of walls surround it? Do you have any furniture, rope, or rope-like fabric you could use to climb them?

Do you know of any other exits? Basements aren't usually well supplied with exits, but the kitchen is likely to have one. Any convenient windows?

Find something sharp, a knitting needle or a pice of broken glass you could wrap cloth around to make a handle, if it comes down to it you may need to kill to escape.

i know this isnt soemthing youd want to do, but you heared what he said about this "Tonpaht" and his entourage, this is not something you want to be anywere near, or something you want to abandon anyone too.

Ask if anyone has rope. It can't do any harm to ask, and if you ask everyone, it won't seem like you're signaling Jorta out.

Alternately, you could tie bedsheets or something together and use them to climb out. After all, if you're running away, you might as well get some use out of the things you can't bring with you.

Two options:

One involves tunneling under the wall. It's labor intensive, but not an impossibility.

Another would be fashioning rope from bedsheets and other strong linens. Probably easier too.

Tie something heavy to the end (like a rock or whatever). Then you can throw it upwards and hopefully snag it on those spikes or tusks or whatever those things are at the top of the wall.

We tie together all of the sheets that anyone is willing to give. I say goodbye to the girls who are awake. Shan-ha seems unwilling to speak to any of them.

What exactly should I get from the House for later use before I leave?

Water, or something to carry water in. Some food. Coins, if you have any (not likely). Change of clothes, a knife, ummm medical supplies? Can you think of anything else?

Food, anything that will keep well or is high energy. Something to hold water in and anything valuable to sell. You should all wear servents clothing or older pieces that are worn out. Anything new and shiny will simply catch attention and you will be remembered. I doubt there is anything really worthwhile but take some very sharp kitchen knives.

Take some food and anything that has sentimental value to you that doesn't look expensive.

Also, it would be best if you put on a less fancy dress to blend in.

Each of us gets food for ourselves. I take a kitchen knife, and sheath it in a book so that it does not cut all of my stuff! The book is called Sermons of The Prophet Jerem.

I change clothes, but pack my fancy Serratian outfit just in case!

Shai-shai's outfit is not that fancy.

I tell Shan-ha that she should change so that she does not draw attention.

We flip the rope over, making sure that the grapnel is in a secure place, then carefully drop down the wall. Shai-shai seems to be afraid of heights, and all three of us have burned hands.

We run over to the big box things, and then slip between them. I take one last look at the Peephouse. It is hard to leave home!

hide, they probably know all about the peep house and would assume you come from there instantly. after they leave check out the container with the peephouse's marking on it.

That's probably the watchman for the freight yard, don't let him find you, when he is far enough away make a run for it.

see if you can get in it, if you can't then keep heading exactly away from the peephouse. make sure the guy is too far to see you when you move.

yeah check to see if any of the crates are opened/easily openable, but if it looks like they're going to make noise, then leave them. .Getting away is more important than getting cloos.

I cautiously approach the strange, large thing. It seems to be made of mostly metal, with some wood.

It is sitting completely motionless and still. The containers on the back of it all have the mark on them that is shared by the other boxes in the yard. They are all closed and locked.

We need to decide definitely what we will do!

Go inside the train metal monster!

there isn't much you can do with it, you are not a conductor. follow the tracks in the direction it's facing.

Find a way inside!

What you're definitely going to do is put as much distance between you three and the Peephouse in as small a time as you can. You just need a direction.

All three of you climb in the back of the big metal wheeled thing. Have the others give you a leg up onto the first container so you have a better vantage point, before they search the cab for tools or anything else that might be useful. Look around for places that aren't water or mountain that have the fewest lights or buildings. That's where the least number of people are at this time, and where you want to go.

The safest option is to get to another city by following the tracks, though it will be hard with so few supplies.

Well why not let nature decide, go where the warm air takes you, besides I'm sure it will take you to an ocean and oceans always have big cities.

Follow the tracks in the opposite direction from the contraption. If you go the direction it is facing, then you will be overtaken by it, and people will have seen you. Go the way it has already come from. It will lead to another town eventually.
