Try to possess the chair in order to make the person fall. Sleeping on a table is not good for your back. We are professionals, our hunting is meant to bring excitement to the lives of humans, and if we can stop somebody from getting harmed, that is a plus.

I guess good time to ask, how well versed are you in human technology? Can you operate a computer, smartphone or such as a person who uses them every day would, or is your knowledge/interaction ability limited there?

Depending on such, checking their phone (if available) and seeing their contacts list (names) and numbers would give you a lot of info, and allow for shenanigans by calling them from another phone.

Both are compelling arguments! You worry about the fragility of humans and potential injuries. While injuries can be expected during certain haunting activities, it would be best to avoid them out of politeness.

Knowing this, you possess the apartment manager's chair and lightly tip them over onto the floor, sparing him of severe back pain!

>Ghostie, what other people/entities do you know personally / consider a friend in the vicinity?

Mister Depressed should still be in Miss Syven's apartment. You would also consider Miss Mouse a friend.

That reminds you of the plan! Miss Syven will be coming back home soon to help interrogate your target and figure out his deal. While she distracts him, you'll be working out how to get into his phone and uncover all his dastardly secrets. Or just how to use it. Then, scare planning and haunting etiquette.

You can almost taste sweet victory.

>See if you can find any files on your roommate/victim/target.

Since the desk is where all the business happens, you look over and find some areas of interest.

There's one folder titled: Completed Forms.

When you turn the computer on, you see a log-in screen prompting a 5-digit-numeric password.

There's also a sticky-note on the computer that says: Up4ndUndrrEversthEw4yy4.

The apartment manager appears to be a demon, devil, imp, or some other entity with a spade tail and horns.

Rather than yanking the tail (which could lead to harm/waking or some scandalous information), might just be easier to see if the tail is alive (i.e. swishes in his sleep, reacts to minor touches or develops goosebumps from a cold breath).

>Check if that tail is real and not some elaborate costume, same goes for the horns.
>see if the tail is alive

You blow a gust of cold air towards him to check for any elaborate costumes. His tail reacts, batting around then going back to resting.

Egads! The tail is real. You're not sure what to make of that. Also, on closer inspection, his horns indeed look attached to his scalp.

>does that guy have horns and a tail? Is that usual?

Hmmm... If he has them, then that doesn't mean it's unusual, right? All living people have their quirks. Some have beautiful hair and some like to sleep on the floor.

>Is that normal / accepted / known by the tenants (and ghosts), or something that needs reporting to your boss (in case they're capable of doing soul-contracts and such)?

Well, his appearance doesn't shock you at all, that's for sure! He's always looked like this. His job is to manage the tenants and lease contracts, so maybe they are soul-binding? Buuut unlike Miss Syven, he doesn't acknowledge your presence or the presence of any other ghost whenever you've been around.

Ah, must be a Mapa thing.

You search the apartment manager's pockets and find a money clip with some green bills. No cards or a phone. This is a guy that means business! You do hide it in the hat of course.

>Whats that billboard-like thing behind the desk / above the printer?

A map of the apartment complex! Just the first level. There's three total. Currently, you're on the first level and the rest are underground.

>>1131634

You can stretch and zing and do all sorts of things! Technically, your limit is your imagination, it's only when you turn corporeal that you start to get real tired. Passing through things is no problem, including people, but they tend to feel really cold when you do.

Salt lines can prevent you from crossing stuff, but most tenants don't do that.

>Maybe find a pillow and push it underneath his head

You go through a few of the drawers until you find a conveniently stored pillow. With a careful lift, you put it under his head.

Another interesting detail is about the Manager (Mapa?) only accepting non-direct payments 'for the safety of the Manager'.

So either Mapa is very sensitive/vulnerable to mortals, had bad experiences, or cannot be revealed at all lest something bad happens to them (e.g. if they're harmed by light).

Or the statement is a lie and more for so that Mapa isn't forced to do something horrible to anyone who directly visits them.

What kind of apartment complex has one level thats above ground and two levels underground? That would imply that either the complex needs two seperate basement levels, or that a portion of the residents are perfectly ok with living underground with no natural light (vampires? ghosts?).

I'm also curious why Management even needs money under such strict/deadly restrictions, other than to pay for the complex itself to whatever government/force-that-be makes them do so.

Side question: If a haunting target comes across mortal danger by external forces during a haunting (e.g. a monster attack, falling chandelier, or being unable to pay rent as per that contract), are you obligated or required to rescue them so that you don't fail your haunting assignment?

Well, yes! It wouldn't be a good haunt if your target died suddenly, so you are obligated to help them if a situation comes up. It's all a part of good haunting etiquette.

Of course, stuff can happen outside your control. So, as long as you don't see it happen, it's not your fault :).

However, in all your years here, you've never seen the apartment manager kill anyone! And violent murders don't happen that often. Sometimes, people just get heart attacks, like that old couple Miss Syven mentioned.

Ask him if he knows Mapa! And about the contract with the tennant, since you are assigned to them and need them alive/not evicted until you are done.
>>
No. 1132145 ID: 3783d5

A thought occurs - if your job is to get the tennant to be spooked enough to leave (is it that specific or is your goal more vague?), then he might end up breaking his contract doing so and forefeit his life.

That would mean his contract is scaring him into staying / you and the manager have conflicting goals. Manager either wants tennants to stay for cash, or he wants tennants to die or other bad stuff by voiding their contract.

So what would you haunting someone away do for his tennant contract? Is our successfull haunting gonna kill someone indirectly?

"Who's Bookieburn's on binsta?"

"Bookie-borns? I don't know that person."

Drat!

"Just look it up on the computer."

Will do!

"Are you a lucid dreamer?"

"Yeah.. I guess you could call it that."

Hmmm. So Apartment Manager Dean is fully aware of all the stuff going on right now! Meaning, all his info should be 100% correct.

"What's the apartment policy on leasing to tough-to-scare people?"

"Anyone willing to pay rent on time is a welcome lessee. It's not my problem if you can't scare them off the property before they die."

Wow, rude. But wait...

"Before they die?"

"Either of old age or other unforeseen circumstances." He recites, "In exchange for providing housing at reasonable rates per income and circumstance, with no regard for background or credit checks, all utilities covered, alongside tuition reimbursement and enrollment into other renter-specific perks including our holiday raffles, we are required beneficiaries of all tenant life insurance policies. Of course, we go through thorough third party auditing processes to prove we aren't murdering our tenants just because we feel like it. Nothing is hidden and all terms are spelled out before they sign. Tenants may file to break or void their leases at any time at no consequence, so long as they can pay up to two months' worth of rent."

This guy sure sounds smart. No wonder he's the Apartment Manager.

Your eyes narrow. "So, if you want them to stay, but I have to scare them to leave, are we enemies, Apartment Manager?"

"In a way, yes. I was not here when the contract was made with the closet entity, so even though I find it dumb, I'm not allowed to interfere in your... Paranormal activities."

"Wait, so do you know Mapa?"

"Mapa... Yes, the closet entity."

Wait. Wait. Wait. Hold the phone! That means... This guy knew about you all this whole time! He ignored you and all the other ghosts on purpose! >:|.

As peeved as you are, you've got to focus on the main goal.

"Who's Johan Jones? Can you tell me all you know?"

Dean squints distastefully. "The new tenant? Ah, that makes sense now. He's your target. Welll, I'm not allowed to interfere."

You give him your biggest wettest most beautiful eyes.

He sighs. "Fine. He's a weird guy, that's for sure. Applied the moment we had that unit open and paid down the deposit and two months worth of rent in one go. Quit his day job and everything, but has plenty of savings. As long as they can pay the rent on time, who cares?"

You don't know which parts of this are important just yet, but you're taking down excellent mental notes.

"What about his fears? His feelings?"

"Ah, ah, that's too easy. Buuut, I can tell you one thing, I could smell the sheer intent off of him. He reeks of jealousy."

"Jealousy? Who's he jealous of?"

The Apartment Manager grins at you.

"Someone that lives here."

Well, that doesn't sound good. You feel some dots in your mind start to connect.

"Can they talk it out?"

"I hope they do." He snickers to himself.

"What's so funny?"

"We'll find out soon enough. Any other questions?"

"Who's your daddy?"

"No more questions." He glares and proceeds to smush his face into his attendant's ample chest. "Get out of my head and you better be gone when I wake up."

Awwww. Well, he did answer you and you got a good scare, so you'll respect his rude demand. It's only fair!

>jealousy
So... either there's another tenant here who's dating the person he's stalking, or it's the stalk-target themself.
How much can you screw around with objects? Can you do any permanent alterations?

>>1132700
Ah, so, bookieburns is the stalk-target. Well, we'd like to know who bookieburns is dating, because they are potentially in danger, and so is bookieburns. Seems likely bookieburns lives here since they were just seen across the street. Seems MOST likely that Jason doesn't know who bookieburns is dating, since the profile is private... check "how to get around being blocked on bista" search results to see if it's possible Jason got around the problem. Knowing what he knows is useful.

After that, we probably need to go find bookieburns's apartment and warn them, or whoever's the resident ghost there. Or if neither are present we can go talk to Mapa again about this, since we now know it's serious. Honestly if we can just get bookieburns protected somehow we can get back to trying to scare Jason.

About as much as you can do with ghostly telekenesis and a weight limit of a big book. You can also squish soda cans if they're empty, but applying that kind of pressure on something bigger can be hard.

>There is a strange conspiracy happening in this building. So let's give all the conspirators a big scare by getting to the bottom of this secret and revealing it to the world.
>YEAH PUT ON YOUR SLEUTHING CAP

Yeah. Yeah! There is some secret conspiracy afoot and who better to investigate than Boo! You don an approprite sleuth cap and take a magnifying glass out of the desk drawer.

The Boo-tective is on the case!

An astute observation, my dear mind. You still do not want anyone to get hurt, so uncovering the identities of these individuals and their whereabouts may aid in your journey in unraveling this case and scaring Johan away once and for all.

You open up the search tab and do some dastardly boogling. It looks like the only way to get around a block would be to make a new account. Something anyone can do for free!

If Johan managed to create a new account, he'd have to be one of the followers in order to see through Bookie's private account....

>Check the list of followers, then try and log in as them! Or try logging in as Bookie? Followers can still see private accounts! Odds are at least one of them set their password to password and also doesn’t have 2fa?

Good idea! You go through each person in the following list, spamming password per password in a hail mary bid to get through!

Any photo taken would either be taken by the account owner without them in it, would be a selfie, or would likely have been taken by another person (i.e. the potential romance that our target is jealous of) to take a picture of the account owner in non-selfie format.

We also know the tenant had a view of a specific set of buildings from his apartment. Those could be used to find a matching location between the account picture and what the tenant could see (e.g. a food item and the view of place that would serve that item).
>>
No. 1132782 ID: 377f58

Was Latte Lots or a similar dining place visible from the perspective of the tenants window (specifically the room with all the photos), or the food served in a neaeby establishment?

Notable is that Bookie is a photographer, so their pictures would be a lot better looking than that of someone else taking photos.

Check if there are any old notifications regarding relationship status (breaking up, 'its complicated', and such), or block lists.

If we want to make the managers work inconvenienced, we could change his password(s) to something new, that only we know (or nobody knows), locking them out of the computer temporarily.

They also seem to have a Dis-cord equivalent social media account (the app with ears and tail). Wonder if they have Mapa/tenants in their socials, or use it for work. Good opportunity to spread some boos to his chat group either way.
