>Yoink the managers wallet for more info (ID and such) then put it in their hat.

You search the apartment manager's pockets and find a money clip with some green bills. No cards or a phone. This is a guy that means business! You do hide it in the hat of course.

>Whats that billboard-like thing behind the desk / above the printer?

A map of the apartment complex! Just the first level. There's three total. Currently, you're on the first level and the rest are underground.

>>1131634

You can stretch and zing and do all sorts of things! Technically, your limit is your imagination, it's only when you turn corporeal that you start to get real tired. Passing through things is no problem, including people, but they tend to feel really cold when you do.

Salt lines can prevent you from crossing stuff, but most tenants don't do that.

>Maybe find a pillow and push it underneath his head

You go through a few of the drawers until you find a conveniently stored pillow. With a careful lift, you put it under his head.

Sweet dreams, guy.

>Try typing in 43344

Aww, that one doesn't work either.

Boo! You thought that one would work for sure. Is it the capitals on the stickynote that matter? Or the numbers too? Maybe both...

I think U is 2, because two is pronounced with a sort of u sound. E is 3, and 4 is 4. So the code is 2423344.

Another interesting detail is about the Manager (Mapa?) only accepting non-direct payments 'for the safety of the Manager'.

So either Mapa is very sensitive/vulnerable to mortals, had bad experiences, or cannot be revealed at all lest something bad happens to them (e.g. if they're harmed by light).

Or the statement is a lie and more for so that Mapa isn't forced to do something horrible to anyone who directly visits them.

Seems like a good guess, though the password seems to have five characters in the art (unless the full password character limit isn't fully shown).

To confirm/limit things, does the password accept letters, or just numbers? And whats the character limit?

What kind of apartment complex has one level thats above ground and two levels underground? That would imply that either the complex needs two seperate basement levels, or that a portion of the residents are perfectly ok with living underground with no natural light (vampires? ghosts?).

I'm also curious why Management even needs money under such strict/deadly restrictions, other than to pay for the complex itself to whatever government/force-that-be makes them do so.

Side question: If a haunting target comes across mortal danger by external forces during a haunting (e.g. a monster attack, falling chandelier, or being unable to pay rent as per that contract), are you obligated or required to rescue them so that you don't fail your haunting assignment?

Aw, looks like that's too many numbers. 5 numbers seem to be the limit.

You try 24233 and 23344.

Well, yes! It wouldn't be a good haunt if your target died suddenly, so you are obligated to help them if a situation comes up. It's all a part of good haunting etiquette.

Of course, stuff can happen outside your control. So, as long as you don't see it happen, it's not your fault :).

>>1131646
>>1131647

Oooo.. That does look like a problem. A serious source of ghostliness problem.

However, in all your years here, you've never seen the apartment manager kill anyone! And violent murders don't happen that often. Sometimes, people just get heart attacks, like that old couple Miss Syven mentioned.

Maybe it's just another scare tactic they use? Since lying is bad.

In a blink, you appear within the depths of the apartment manager's mind. You stand at what looks like a hallway that opens into a sandy beach. The sun is high in the sky and there are gentle waves that hit the sand.

Looks like they're having a dream about being royal, rich or otherwise luxuriously pampered instead of working a day job (relatable). We can work with this if we play along!

Pretend to be a personal butler/servant, someone who needs their password/code authorization, or the code signed on a document so they can finalize an order for something ridiculously luxurious, expensive or enjoyable. Getting them 'drunk' might also help.

"Monsieur, we have ordered the champagnie fountain, super-yacht, solid gold statue and Japanese-style hot spring full of 'amorous masseurs' as per yesterdays request. We just need your five-digit code to finalize the purchase and they will arrive within ze hour."

You can dress and be anything in a dream. While an everyday beach goer or a beach blanket sounds appealing, you want to really get this guy good and get all the info! You don a fancy bowtie and summon a serving platter to sell the look of a faithful servant.

As you approach, you take on a fancy accent. "Monsieur, we have ordered the champagnie fountain, super-yacht, super-gold hot spring of malaise as per yesterdays request. We just need your five-digit code to finalize the purchase and they will arrive within ze hour."

The apartment manager gazes at you with a lazy smile, clearly falling for your disguise.

>>
No. 1132145 ID: 3783d5

A thought occurs - if your job is to get the tennant to be spooked enough to leave (is it that specific or is your goal more vague?), then he might end up breaking his contract doing so and forefeit his life.

That would mean his contract is scaring him into staying / you and the manager have conflicting goals. Manager either wants tennants to stay for cash, or he wants tennants to die or other bad stuff by voiding their contract.

So what would you haunting someone away do for his tennant contract? Is our successfull haunting gonna kill someone indirectly?

"What's the apartment policy on leasing to tough-to-scare people?"

"Anyone willing to pay rent on time is a welcome lessee. It's not my problem if you can't scare them off the property before they die."

Wow, rude. But wait...

"Before they die?"

"Either of old age or other unforeseen circumstances." He recites, "In exchange for providing housing at reasonable rates per income and circumstance, with no regard for background or credit checks, all utilities covered, alongside tuition reimbursement and enrollment into other renter-specific perks including our holiday raffles, we are required beneficiaries of all tenant life insurance policies. Of course, we go through thorough third party auditing processes to prove we aren't murdering our tenants just because we feel like it. Nothing is hidden and all terms are spelled out before they sign. Tenants may file to break or void their leases at any time at no consequence, so long as they can pay up to two months' worth of rent."

This guy sure sounds smart. No wonder he's the Apartment Manager.

Your eyes narrow. "So, if you want them to stay, but I have to scare them to leave, are we enemies, Apartment Manager?"

"In a way, yes. I was not here when the contract was made with the closet entity, so even though I find it dumb, I'm not allowed to interfere in your... Paranormal activities."

"Wait, so do you know Mapa?"

"Mapa... Yes, the closet entity."

Wait. Wait. Wait. Hold the phone! That means... This guy knew about you all this whole time! He ignored you and all the other ghosts on purpose! >:|.

As peeved as you are, you've got to focus on the main goal.

"Who's Johan Jones? Can you tell me all you know?"

Dean squints distastefully. "The new tenant? Ah, that makes sense now. He's your target. Welll, I'm not allowed to interfere."

You give him your biggest wettest most beautiful eyes.

He sighs. "Fine. He's a weird guy, that's for sure. Applied the moment we had that unit open and paid down the deposit and two months worth of rent in one go. Quit his day job and everything, but has plenty of savings. As long as they can pay the rent on time, who cares?"

You don't know which parts of this are important just yet, but you're taking down excellent mental notes.

"What about his fears? His feelings?"

"Ah, ah, that's too easy. Buuut, I can tell you one thing, I could smell the sheer intent off of him. He reeks of jealousy."

"I hope they do." He snickers to himself.

"What's so funny?"

"We'll find out soon enough. Any other questions?"

"Who's your daddy?"

"No more questions." He glares and proceeds to smush his face into his attendant's ample chest. "Get out of my head and you better be gone when I wake up."

So... either there's another tenant here who's dating the person he's stalking, or it's the stalk-target themself.
How much can you screw around with objects? Can you do any permanent alterations?

>>1132700
Ah, so, bookieburns is the stalk-target. Well, we'd like to know who bookieburns is dating, because they are potentially in danger, and so is bookieburns. Seems likely bookieburns lives here since they were just seen across the street. Seems MOST likely that Jason doesn't know who bookieburns is dating, since the profile is private... check "how to get around being blocked on bista" search results to see if it's possible Jason got around the problem. Knowing what he knows is useful.

After that, we probably need to go find bookieburns's apartment and warn them, or whoever's the resident ghost there. Or if neither are present we can go talk to Mapa again about this, since we now know it's serious. Honestly if we can just get bookieburns protected somehow we can get back to trying to scare Jason.
