>C, start stoic and get more emotional
Okay, realistically things aren’t catastrophic–he still has food, water, shelter, and a job–but this is probably the most stressful combination of things that have happened to Henry since puberty. He wanders from the sidewalk to the curb and sinks down. Take forehead, apply to thumb and pointer finger for perfect melancholy form. A few manly tears trickle down his cheeks and he holds his breath to stop from whimpering.

Is he a bad person for what happened to Becca? Is Mahan a bad person because he’s old-fashioned? What does being bad even mean when a lot of the lines in Henry’s life are already drawn and he has to ride them out?

He’s supposed to be good at dealing with feelings. Mature, sensible Henry.

“Hey, why’re you sittin’?” Mahan sounds concerned for the first time.

“Would you leave me alone already? You guys are always bugging me about everything and I can’t take it right now. Fuck off, g-go home if you don’t want to be here.”

“We do want to be here.” Victor states.

“I d-don’t!” Henry wants to yell and scream at them, just to scare them away. He lets the frustration bleed through his cracking voice. “You think you’re helping but you’re not! Acting smart or superior all the time–it’s fucking annoying. I know I make m-mistakes, I know I can be kind of annoyingly horny, but I never tried to hurt anyone!”

That shuts them up for a second. He distantly hears the door open and bare footsteps approach from behind. Jess touches his shoulder and Henry hides his face in his arms. He’s still mad at the fox.

“Come on honey, I’ll put you up in the bedroom and bring you a plate. Don’t worry about the party, I can handle everything. Victor and Mahan will be good, won’t they?”

“Didn’t mean to make him that upset.” the pika mumbles.

Henry doesn’t have the will to resist as Jess guides his wobbly body up the stairs to the blessedly dim bedroom. He’s not drowsy, but after a few minutes of stewing on top of the soft comforter listening to the distant sounds of civil conversation, the wolf falls asleep.

Thanks for reading, Henry and Jess’s story will continue in the next thread.

Looks like you are playing the role of the minder today. Because otherwise things will get so much worse much faster if they truly believe a mimic is here.. or worse still if there actually is a mimic. You'll need to get them away to start searching.

Granted, Touched do sometimes talk about things that don't exist, or attach incorrect labels to things, but the typical strategy when working with them is assume they are correct until proven otherwise. Fewer people get eaten that way. I inform my new headache that I have other Rezan companions that may help.

"Well then go get them, why are you still standing here? Go get them, I will follow before the mimic can eat us all!"

See what I mean? I head back out to the passenger car.

"Sergei! Ser-oh lo lo lo, why iz a crowd forming 'ere?"

:nusergei:"Ah Nuunette, well Vidian was listening to a lecture on pipes and steam pressure, when she pointed out one sounded off, the engineer opened up a compartment and well..."

The Touched pushes past me and into the maintenance tunnel.

"Mmmm yes, that's not Matrin. That's his minder. Looks like the mimic stuff him in here for later."

:nusergei:"Mimic? Oh, you mean a voraklat?"

"A vora-what?"

:nusergei:"Something from the Rezan homeland. They disguise who they are based on their last meal. Smarter ones are known to store corpses if they need to switch diguises."

Well, they're going to want to use it openly. If you stole it, then whoever you stole it from would easily find out where it went and try to get it back, which isn't a great result. Seems like you have to buy it or trade for it.

Effort is key.
Angels, being all soppy and junk, really believe that thing about the effort you put in to doing something. Maybe seeing that is one of their weird powers.

So, boss, the harder you work the better.
We need a horn then.
Which is ironic as we normally give people the horn, not find them.
Can we find a demon with a big head and horns and just uh, arrange a donation .
Oh!
Hang on. What about a woven reed horn.
If you get the reeds from the edge of the river lethe and gilter out all the forgetfulness magic, there might be some residual mana to tap for the enchantment.
>>

Hang on do you know any other angels? Or at least know of any who would be willing to talk/trade with you? Cause the item your thinking or sounds more like a divine/blessing type thing than a demon type thing. Alternatively are there other powers you could reach out to? Are fae a thing in your reality?
>>

Well, I'd like to see you swell with sexual fluids until the pressure causes you to orgasm, and do it again and again for the rest of the quest.

>What to get
Rather than an actual horn of plenty (gods get kind of pissed if you create an infinite exploit that takes power from their domain and gives mortals basic universal welfare), you could come up with a pair of magic items. A wastebasket that digests anything you put into it, which gets connected to hydroponics mini-farm that re-grows that same item in a smaller form. So, if you throw a chocolate cake in the bin, the bin eats it, keeps some energy for itself and the farm, and then creates a small clone of the chocolate cake.
This way, you don't have to worry about delivering future gifts! You can just give Havel a present via magic teleporter and it'll even be in fun size!

In the Age Of Man, Y-O-A 304, humanity at large mastered the skies, and the world beyond. With the finest magical minds of the generation, we conquered the Void. By wrapping a vessel - a Shell - in magic and steel we were able to catapult out of a Chamber to distant worlds, and with proper preparation retrieve the Shells back to their Chambers with teleportation magic. While the costs were extreme, the resources and knowledge retrieved from such missions was incalculably valuable. Entire new worlds sat at our feet, untouched by the Spell Withering, and the Mana there was plentiful and fresh.

We entered the Void Age.

This is a NSFW chapter!

My name is Mary.

I own a dungeon.

Not by choice, mind you. I was forced into this when the previous owner placed a curse on me after I tried to audit him. Now I'm the ruler of this place.

I am currently very sick...

This was also not by choice. As I drift into a fevered dream there is but one thing on my mind...

Boobs. Literally. I can't breath.

Is this how I die....?

Life is dull.
There’s no other way around it.
You’ve worked hard - you’ve contributed to society. But at the end of the day, all you come back to is that same old TV in your livingroom.

An acrid scent lingers in your hovel. You’d say its the same sight you’ve known for years now, but the truth is that the bits of plaster in the back seem to be peeling off more and more every day.

At least you still had your television set.

You had set the damn thing up a while back - a radio transceiver, typically made for logistical workers hauling goods over long distances. Jury-rigging a spare set to act as a television antennae was difficult, but it was better than nothing.
Still, the microphone dangled off the side, the cord twisting and untwisting as you try to navigate to the mildly interesting soap opera you caught the tail-end of last night.
Turning the knob, a picture starts to form, blanketed under a layer of static. For once, it doesn’t sound like a pre-recorded show.

The most pertinent plan is to investigate what’s in the small room first. Messing with electricity in a low-light environment sounds like a bad idea.

“Davey, I think it’s time to use one of the flares. Search the control room.”
He leans away from the flare as it bursts to life, temporarily rendering the screen white. Moments later, it calms, fizzing with blazing intensity as Davey sheepishly places it onto a table nearby.

“Agh… it’s so red in here… my eyes kinda hurt…”

Of course, since your television can’t pick up any colours from Davey’s camera, it’s still black and white.
Uncovered by the flare’s light, more of the room takes shape - control panels, dust and debris, untouched for who knows how long.
Across the room, rows of lockers loom, casting shadows against the walls.

“O-ok, time to get going! These flares won’t last forever!”

Davey begins to search the room, leaving the camera on a table as you catch him scurrying around in the back.
An issue occurs to you as Davey searches the control room for supplies. Even if he was able to find supplies to bridge across the gap from before, how would he build it, and how would he carry it over? He’s far from the most physically proficient mouseman around, from his escapades earlier in the day. Bridging across the gap alone may prove difficult.
Message too long. Click here to view the full text.

Soon, Davey returns with the dimming flare, its once-bright flare now dwindled down to a fainter glow.

Davey arranges his findings in a haphazard pile, mulling it over as the flare light begins to dim further. Outside of old rotten paper that’s not even good for kindling, it’s a bit of a meager pile.

- A metal pole
- What appears to be three pieces of rusted metal sheeting about as tall as Davey
- A box of nails (no hammer)
- A hand-cranked drill
- A saw
- The key (not for the big door or lockers, for something smaller)

“Seems like there used to be some construction work down here, Rory. But it’s a little strange - I couldn’t really figure out what these control panels do, and I’ve cleared out the shelves.

Overall, it proves disappointing, but Davey had only searched through the closest area around him. The lockers remain unopened, though it would take some effort to pry open.

The flare dims around Davey as he sits, thinking.

Looks like there’s a few options from what to do from here:

- Continue searching the control room, expending another flare in the process.
- Head down the dumbwaiter to look for more possible routes forward.
- Think of a plan for bridging the gap despite Davey’s physical limitations, using the materials he’s discovered and what could be lying around in his house. (You will be given a chance to decide if he should go ahead with the plan or not after deliberation.)

Let's try this dumbwaiter.
>>
No. 1103502 ID: 6c233e

None of this looks like enough to deal with the gap, so dumbwaiter.

Although, it was hard to gauge the width of the pit from our view. Does the table look like it would be long enough to bridge? Also, are the shelves attached to the wall, or is it a freestanding unit?
>>
No. 1103734 ID: 5e1281

It's going to have to be the dumbwaiter.

Unless you want to use the metal pole as an impromptu hammer to nail the sheets together and bridge the gap. Unlikely to succeed, but it's an option.

>You'll know more about me when the time is right, can't ruin my mysterious energy
I don't know why you think "I'll murder you when I get bored", makes you cool or interesting, but it doesn't. It makes you a danger. The actually interesting questions about you can be solved after the problem of "when will Hax decide to betray and murder us?" is solved.

I really, sincerely, want to be able to get along with you. I want to talk to you. I want to get to know you. I want to have fun with you. I want to learn about what you are and what you can do, together with you and Jack. But I need to look after our main character, and that means I cannot overlook the threats you've made. I don't feel comfortable giving hacking advice to someone who's already said they're willing to use it against us.

All I want is for you to promise that you won't betray us or Jack. If you're willing to do that, then that's enough of a reason to try and trust you, and we can just have fun without worrying about it anymore. But if you're truly unwilling to do even that, then... it would be fair to see you as an enemy and act accordingly.

Jack's going to have a chat with Ahn soon. This is the best chance to decide how our relationship is going to go, Hax. We can have a nice time playing with her cybersecurity, like you wanted. Or we can warn Ahn about the danger Jack's in and get her to remove the chip. I sincerely hope it doesn't come to that, but I'm ready if it means protecting Jack.

Well, Hax, what's your answer? Can we trust you?
